Expanded DACA / DAP Put on Hold at Last Second

On Tuesday, February 17, 2015, a federal district judge in Texas issued a temporary injunction of expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of US Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAP). The injunction temporarily prevents the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from accepting applications for the DACA expansion and DAP. The ruling will be appealed, though it is uncertain how long a decision will take. It is important to note that this ruling does not affect individuals that are eligible for the existing DACA program. Such individuals may still apply and receive a decision on their applications. Only the new programs, one of which (expanded DACA) was to begin today, are impacted. Our immigration attorneys will continue to monitor this story as it develops. However, if you think you may be eligible for traditional DACA, expanded DACA, or DAP, call Johnstone Adams at (251) 432-7682 or toll-free at (866) 732-3267 for a free consultation, or visit our Website. It is never too early to begin planning your course of action.
